If your teeth are stained, unusually shaped, or smaller-than-average, consider veneers. These custom-designed shells mask visible imperfections, restoring your smile to a vibrant, attractive condition. At Atrium Modern Dental, in Dallas, Texas, Quyen Hong, DDS, can use veneers to help you achieve the smile of your dreams. To schedule an appointment, call the office or book online today.
Veneers are incredibly thin pieces of porcelain that attach to the front of your permanent teeth. They minimize visible imperfections that won’t respond to other cosmetic treatments like teeth whitening or Invisalign®.
It’s possible to get only one or two veneers, but Dr. Hong usually recommends between six and eight. Once placed, veneers allow for a more symmetrical smile, allowing you to speak and interact with others confidently.
At Atrium Modern Dental, Dr. Hong uses veneers to address various problems, including:
You might also benefit from veneers if you have pointy or unusually shaped teeth.
Before recommending veneers, Dr. Hong reviews your dental health history and conducts an oral exam. If you have crooked or uneven teeth, she might recommend orthodontic treatment before placing veneers.
If Dr. Hong determines that veneers are right for you, she administers a local anesthetic and prepares your teeth. To do this, she removes a thin layer of enamel from each tooth, about one millimeter thick. After preparing your teeth, Dr. Hong takes impressions. She delivers your impressions to the dental lab next door.
The laboratory technicians use your impressions to create a number of veneers that look and feel like your natural teeth. A week or two later, you return to Atrium Modern Dental, and Dr. Hong bonds them in place. Afterward, she trims off any excess material, polishes your teeth, and assesses your bite.
To keep your veneers in optimal condition, it’s important to practice good oral hygiene. Dr. Hong recommends visiting Atrium Modern Dental every six months for an oral exam and professional cleaning. In addition, practice good oral hygiene. Brush twice daily and floss regularly.
To limit the risk of chips, fractures, or other damage, wear a mouthguard when playing sports or participating in strenuous activities. You might also want to wear a night guard if you grind your teeth or clench your jaw while sleeping.
