Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that gradually straightens your teeth and jaw. Instead of using wires and brackets like traditional braces, Invisalign uses clear, custom-crafted mouthpieces that fit snugly over your teeth. You remove your aligners before each meal, so you can still eat your favorite foods, including popcorn and pretzels.
At Atrium Modern Dental, Dr. Hong uses Invisalign to correct various alignment problems, including:
You might also benefit from Invisalign treatment if you have crowded teeth.
Prior to recommending Invisalign, Dr. Hong conducts an oral exam and reviews your dental health history. Afterward, she takes digital oral X-rays to assess the position of your teeth and jaw. If she discovers any alignment issues, you may qualify for treatment.
To prepare your aligners, Dr. Hong takes digital impressions of your mouth using an intraoral scanner. She uploads your impressions to a computer design program and develops a care plan that lays out the step-by-step movements of your teeth. After finalizing a plan, Dr. Hong delivers your scans to the dental laboratory next door.
The lab techs use your scans to create two mouthpieces that fit comfortably. About a week later, you return to Atrium Modern Dental and try them on. Throughout orthodontic treatment, you visit the office every two or three weeks. At each appointment, you transition to a new set of aligners in the series.
Each new set of aligners places mild pressure on your teeth and alveolar bone, transforming your smile.
Orthodontic treatment with Invisalign usually goes much quicker than traditional braces. Most people achieve a more balanced, symmetrical smile within 6-12 months*, but in some cases, it takes longer. To ensure a positive outcome, wear your aligners 20-22 hours each day, only removing them to eat or brush your teeth.
To keep your aligners in optimal condition, it’s important to clean them regularly. Dr. Hong recommends rinsing them in tap water a few times each day and brushing them with toothpaste and a soft-bristle toothbrush before going to bed at night. For more comprehensive cleanings, ask Dr. Hong about the Invisalign cleaning system.
